The Same Clothes, The Same Care

I felt like I had the one-on-one care that a new mom prays for."

I believe that you can be good at many things, but only exceptional at a few things. I wanted a hospital that focused on a few things so I knew the care I was going to receive was going to be exceptional. The Woman’s Hospital of Texas cares for women and babies. That’s what they do. That’s what they excel in—so that’s where I put my trust.

I remember walking through the doors of the hospital and forgetting everything I’d learned in my prenatal classes. I panicked! I couldn’t remember how I was supposed to breathe, when to push, NOTHING!  But the nurse calmly coached me through everything and the next thing I knew, I was holding my baby girl.

What made this extra special was that I was born at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas and the day I brought my baby home, she wore the same outfit that my mom had saved from the day I came home from the hospital.

“The lactation consultants really made me relax and feel comfortable with what I was doing.”

Now I know why, when I was born, my mom chose The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. Not only did I have a great birth experience, but the lactation consultants made a huge difference in my confidence as a new mom. It is such a scary thing to try and figure out all the ins and outs of breastfeeding.

You think you are so prepared, but then the baby is born and you panic. I was so hormonal and tired and nothing was working. I just burst into tears. My husband called the lactation consultants and they were up there in no time flat guiding me and telling me that it was O.K.  There was no pressure and they helped me relax by explaining that it didn’t mean I wasn’t doing a good job if my first breastfeeding experience didn’t work. Because of their understanding, I was able to enjoy my baby and feel comfortable with what I was doing.
